General Instructions
The Nebraska Department of Revenue requires that you file for an extension of time whether you owe additional taxes or not.
To avoid interest you must pay your current year tax liability in full by April 15, 2006. Any tax not paid by the original due date of the Nebraska return will be assessed interest from the due date to the payment date.
If You Owe...
If you owe you are required to file for an extension. Paying by Credit Card will constitute the filing of a Nebraska extension request. If you pay by Credit Card, there is nothing to file with Nebraska at this time.

Lincoln, NE 68509-4818 - You will be granted an automatic six month extension to October 15, 2006 to file your Nebraska return.
Pay by Credit Card:
Nebraska accepts payment by credit card through Official Payments Corporation . Making your payment in this way automatically qualifies you for a seven month extension of time to file your tax return until November 15, 2006. You will not need to file any other forms at this time. You can do this either on the web or by telephone.
Official Payments Corporation will only accept MasterCard or Visa cards to pay your Nebraska income taxes. There is a convenience fee for this service equal to 2.5% of the tax amount being charged. The minimum fee is $1.00.
To make your payment and receive an automatic extension of time to file, have the following information ready:
- Jurisdiction Code: 3700
- The amount you are paying in dollars and cents
- Your social security number
- Your spouse's social security number (if applicable)
- The first four letters of your last name
- The first four letters of your spouse's last name, if different from yours
- Tax year 2005
- Your home telephone number (including area code)
- Credit card number
- Credit card expiration date (MM/YYYY)
- ZIP Code for the address where your credit card bills are sent

By Telephone:Use your touch-tone phone to call toll-free (800) 272-9829. At the end of your call you will be given a confirmation number. Write down and save this confirmation number for your records
If You Do Not Owe...
If you do not owe, or you are expecting a refund, you are still required to file for an extension. However, Nebraska will accept the Federal Automatic six-month extension in lieu of a Nebraska extension.
If You Are Filing a Federal ExtensionThere is nothing to be filed with Nebraska at this time. Simply attach a copy of your Federal extension form to your Nebraska return when you file. Nebraska will provide an automatic six-month extension until October 15, 2006.
If You Are NOT Filing a Federal ExtensionYou will need to file a Nebraska extension form 4868N. Nebraska will provide an automatic six-month extension until October 15, 2006.
